Career Day field trips

The school to Career Office is currently tentatively planning two careers days.

October 30- NEIT automotive day. Like UTI in the past we will visit the school. There program included collision the only one in the area to do so.

November 20- NEIT Building Tech day. This day will include all aspects of building technology form HVAC to Welding.

Welcome Back

Welcome back everyone. I never left. I spent an exciting summer here in Norton supervising our first work and learning program. The program employed 30 student and provided them with Tutoring. They worked 40 hours a week. I had an incredible time getting to know many students that I had not previously met and student i already knew. Please check back with the blog frequently to see what programs and activities are coming from the school to career office. hope you had a good summer too.

Work and learning summer program

The work and Learning summer programs provides job and academic support to those who need it. Please see Mrs. Ellis for an application.
Applications will not be processed unless complete.
This includes a
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of Social Security card
  • Proof of Address ( a bill from the last 30 days)
  • complete application form.
  • A placement test: Placement test can be obtained by calling

June 1, 2009-June 24, 2009
Monday-Friday

2nd Session
June 22, 2009-July 30, 2009

5:30-10:00 (1st 5 weeks)
4:00-9:00 (last week of class)

Cost: $860.00 + $93.00 for the exam

Summer Work and Learning

If you have a student who is struggling with MCAS or has not passed They may be eligible for the"Work in Summer Program".The WIA program runs in the summer for 6 weeks. Student receive a job with a nonprofit, get paid and receive MCAS tutoring. IF you are interested in have your child in our program Barbara Ellis @ 508-285-0257 on Mondays or Email any day @ BarbaraEllis@norton.k12.ma.us.

There are still slots available for student age 14-24 with an academic or financial need.

Oppurtunity Fair

Opportunity Fair

Overview:
Graduating seniors from 5 surrounding high schools with explore various opportunities that local trade, technical schools, and two year colleges have for student to further their education and gain training necessary to compete in today's job market. Trade unions and local businesses will be on hand to provide students with information about apprenticeship opportunities.

This event is for seniors at the Partnership's high school. Participants are primarily seniors who have not made plans beyond graduation or have applied and / or plan to attend a post secondary education institution. This event provides students with the various opportunities that they may take advantage of, including a wide range of education and training opportunities.

Please send student to sign up with Mrs. Ellis - Space on the bus is limited. The bus will leave at 12 and return around 1:45. Student and families are welcome to attend on their own.

Career Fair- Thank you

Thank you to all who helped me make the career fair happen
Esp. The Attleboro Area School to career partnership, Christine Lachance, Sandy Parsons, Ellen Pillsbury, Julie ensign, Mr. Dewar, Mr. Barth, Mr. Grasso, Kara Griffin, and all of the wonderful speakers. Raffle prizes were delivered to the student and over all everyone had a good time. Hire a Teen

The hire a teen job training workshop will be taking place in April. exact Date TBA soon.
This is a Workshop led by a human resource worker training student on how to get a summer job. Afterwards jobs will be posted that are available in the area.

construction career day date

Construction Career Day has been set for May 6, 2009. There are 18 spots available for the trip. Please see Mrs Ellis in the school to Career office located in the library for a permission form, spots go quickly.

2009 Sophomore Career Fair

The 2009 Sophomore career fair will take place on April 14, 2009.

Selection sheet will be sent out to English classes starting today.


The school to career office and Norton high School are looking for the communities help in two ways. We are in need of speakers for the event. If you are interested in donating two hours of your time and networking with other businesses in the area please call Mrs. Ellis 508-285-0257.
We are also looking for sponsors for the event a donation of $250. will help pay for the expenses incurred from this event. Sponsors will be features in our booklet and possibly be interviewed for the paper.

Assignment #1

The first entry in your journals should be a 2-3 paragraph answer to the following question.
What do you expect from your internship and why did you chose the field youre in?


Assignment #2
You will need to complete a discrimination/ sexual harassment policy law presentation in power point. Instructions will be given out in class in Tuesday Jan. 27. The due date to present will be the week of March 2nd.

09/10 internship information session

An information session will be held on Feb. 2 at 9:00 am for all junior who are interested in taking part in the internship program as senior. Any sophomore who is interest in taking part as a junior must make an appointment to speak with Mrs. Ellis with a parent or guardian.
The School to Career office's phone number is 508-285-0257 and I am available Monday and Wednesdays. Student must have the school to career office sign off on thier course selection sheet before they will be able to enroll in the class.
